KREM 2?s Hall of Fame Campaign came up short this weekend. We were trying to get Pro Football Hall of Fame voters to enshrine Sandpoint native and Packers legend Jerry Kramer.
Jerry Kramer never quit as a player and we?re not going to quit on him.
On Sunday, the Hall of Fame voted for their modern era candidates with familiar names like Jerome Bettis and Deion Sanders in the mix, but the senior committee selects the older players. That committee already picked two nominees for the 2011 class.
Unfortunately, the man known for the most famous block in NFL history was not one of the nominees. Instead, they picked former Redskins linebacker Chris Hanburger and former Rams linebacker Les Richter.
But that doesn?t mean KREM 2 is shutting down the Hall of Fame campaign for Kramer.?Kramer is widely regarded as one of the top players in NFL history that is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He helped win the first two Super Bowls during an all-pro career as a guard with Vince Lombardi?s Packer dynasty of the 1960?s.
So to honor him, we?re hoping to come with the campaign even harder in a few months. Hundreds of people have already joined the campaign by leaving comments of support for the voters on KREM.com and on the Jerry Kramer Facebook page. The response was terrific and we?re hoping the comments will keep coming. We will take all of the current comments and use those to get the campaign a jump start in the spring with the voters.
While we didn?t get him in the Hall of Fame this time, we?ll start up again to get him in the hall in 2012.
