HTC One Max packs fingerprint scanner, 5.9-inch screen
HTC's newest phone, the 5.9-inch HTC One Max, includes a fingerprint scanner -- although unlike the one in Apple's latest iPhone, it's located on the back of the device.
The HTC One Max will go on sale globally later this month and is the company's latest attempt to revive its smartphone business. The Android handset is essentially a larger version of HTC's critically acclaimed One flagship phone, with otherwise similar specs.

Unlike the HTC One, the One Max can be locked or unlocked with a touch on its fingerprint scanner. The scanner can also be used to launch up to three favorite apps, each triggered by a different finger, HTC said Monday.
The phone has a 5.9-inch 1080p HD screen, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor from Qualcomm, and 2GB of RAM. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 2.1 megapixels, while the 4 megapixel rear-facing camera uses HTC's UltraPixel design, which the company says uses a larger image sensor to offer better low-light performance.
Talk time on the WCDMA version of the phone can reach 25 hours on its 3300 mAh battery. The One Max also has a microSD card slot for expandable memory, a feature not found in the U.S. version of the HTC One. It will be on sale in 16GB and 32 GB versions.
The HTC One Max arrives just a month after Samsung unveiled its own large-screen phone, the Galaxy Note 3. The Note 3 has a slightly smaller screen than the One Max, at 5.7 inches, with a 13-megapixel camera rear-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and a 3,200 mAh battery.
HTC and its Korean rival have been sparring on product strategy, and both have previously launched smaller versions of their flagship phones. In HTC's case, it was called the HTC One mini and unveiled in July.
Despite positive reviews for its phones, HTC has been struggling to lift its earnings. Earlier this month, it posted a loss of about $101 million in its third quarter.

Real-Life Architectural Puzzles Made for Escaping
You're alone in a room, or perhaps with a small group of friends, looking for a way out, searching all the walls and surfaces around you—even the furniture and objects—for clues. There is no apparent way out. There are no immediately visible doors.

Hoskins animal abuse trial may conclude Monday
The judge in the case is expected to rule as soon as Monday on whether to dismiss the animal cruelty case against Beth Hoskins. She was charged after the Erie County SPCA seized 73 horses from her farm in 2010.
Her defense team argues the case should be tossed out because prosecutor Matt Albert lied about his relationship with an SPCA employee. Albert was fired by the district attorney, who said the relationship is irrelevant to the case.
The judge may also hand down a ruling on the entire case Monday if it's not dismissed.

Beyonce and Solange Knowles' Dad Remarries but Both Daughters Skip Wedding
Beyonce and Solange Knowles' father, Michael Knowles, got remarried on Sunday, June 30 to former model Gena Charmaine, but neither daughter attended the nuptials. In a statement, Michael explained why his two children couldn't make it to the affair, saying: "Unfortunately, Beyonce and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend."
Previous engagements. Sure they did.?
It's no secret that Beyonce has had issues with her father in the past. The singer fired Michael as her manager in March of 2011, the same year he and Beyonce's mother, Tina, got divorced. At the time, Beyonce said that the decision was strictly a business one, telling Us Weekly: "I've only parted ways with my father on a business level. He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me." But her decision to not attend her own father's wedding makes it seem like there's more to the story. In fact, I'm not one to gossip, but there have been rumors that the reason Michael and Tina Knowles got divorced is because he cheated on her and fathered a love child with a mistress. So yeah, I could kind of see how there would be hard feeling there.
I can understand Michael being a bit embarrassed and not wanting to flat-out say that his kids just didn't come to his wedding. But come on, Michael, who do you think you're fooling? Your children are Beyonce and Solange. If they want to be somewhere, they could easily make it happen.
What do you think of this?
